Manuscript in progress

The Living/Reading Room
facing the lake, with French doors opening to a terrace, embraced the cultural fabric of lakeside life at Old Brewery Bay.

It is here where Leacock, standing before the fireplace, performed for his guests by reading from manuscripts in progress (above), to determine the effect on his future reading public.

This room also became the scene for performances by Leacock's amateur theatre troop The Old Brewery Players.

Using the bay windowed alcove at the west end of the room as a stage, with a bed sheet acting as a curtain, family and friends of all ages became his characters.  Plays were written, posters and programs were issued, many of which were illustrated by Margo Castillon and Leacock's artistic companion May "Fitz" Shaw, for whom he built a painting studio along the shore.
